Launch of Artivism Futures: Drinks & Screenings

6.30 to 11pm. Short film screenings at 7pm

Join us for the launch of Artivism Futures: Reimagining Human Rights Activism, a special event taking place the following day, when we'll be exploring how to build creative resistance for the long term.

The bar be open from 6.30pm until 11pm with four short film screenings, including "Echoes of Resistance" and "Bound", at 7pm. This is a mixer for those attending an invited workshop during the day, those registered for the Saturday event, and anyone else who would like to come along.

Entry is free with a pay bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and vegan food. Booking isn't essential, but if you'd like to eat, please tell us you're coming so we can prepare enough food.

"Echoes of Resistance", 2025

Protests are powerful sensory experiences that embody sound, sight, and touch. They intertwine bodies, places, and voices. Echoes of Resistance grew from this understanding: a collaborative project shaped through workshops with activists in Barcelona, Paris and Brussels. Together, participants explored the sensory and emotional dimensions of collective action —how protest and resistance feel, how they sound, and how they are shared. The process resulted in two interconnected works: soundscapes that capture the auditory textures and atmospheres of protest, and silent videos that explore movements’ expressions, interactions, and emotions. Both pieces invite reflection on how protests communicate beyond words and how those experiences linger in memory and body. Grounded in co-creative inquiry, the project brought together the theatre experiences of Autogestionados, the activist-research perspective of BASCULE, Anna Halbleib’s moving-image expertise, and the commitment of numerous activists. Echoes of Resistance is a process- based work that honours shared creativity and embodied experience.

"Bound", 2025

Short film, 7 min 23 sec
BOUND is a feminist exploration of restricted bodies, created by movement artists Bella Finlayson and Stella Fass. This short film delves into the psychological and emotional impact of the ‘chilling effect’ on young female and gender-non-conforming protesters. Through movement, it looks at the emotional repercussions of the body being controlled and manipulated, as well as the suffocating weight of surveillance, censorship and violent authorities. Set to a soundscape of interviews from protesters across the UK, this film explores a physical manifestation of restraint, fear and frustration, creating a powerful visual statement on the complexity of protest and the silent ways in which the state stifles dissent.
