Work with us

General Manager, part-time, paid

Kairos is a new central London space exploring radical ideas for social and cultural change in response to the climate and nature crises. We launched a year ago with a charitable grant from the Open Society Foundations and now occupy a former furniture shop on Tottenham Court Road.

As well as a venue for talks, film screenings, workshops and other events, we’re also an alternative members’ club and a growing, multi-disciplinary community. As we expand our activities we need a general manager to support the director with the day-to-day management of the project.

We’re looking for someone smart, flexible, and committed to take on the running of our building and the practical implementation of our events and membership programme. The job is a mixture of staff and building management, on-the-ground organisation and administration, plus other responsibilities required to help grow an unconventional start-up functioning on a shoe-string. This is a part-time role that could become full-time as we expand.

You should have the right balance of social skills and hands-on practicality, imagination and work ethic, sound judgment and the confidence to do things differently. There will be some flexibility in terms of hours, though you will need to work some evenings and weekends. This isn’t a curatorial role, but it is central to the growing success of Kairos.

As well as some experience of events management, catering or operational management, you should also have a genuine enthusiasm for the project, a desire to spend time in the space, and the energy to help build something transformational.

For more details about the role please email zoe@Kairos.London. Salary and terms subject to negotiation.

Events staff, shift work, paid

We’re always looking for organised, sociable people to help out at events, welcoming guests at the door, serving drinks and food and clearing away, and other practical tasks as may be necessary throughout the course of the evening.

This is paid shift work. There will also be sections of the evening with nothing to do, when you would be free to enjoy the event. Experience is less important than a genuine enthusiasm for Kairos, a desire to spend time in the space, and the energy to help build something transformational.

Please send a CV and covering letter to events@Kairos.London

Help with our food, voluntary

Food is key at Kairos, usually in the form of a one pot vegan stew that we all eat together. We’re looking for someone to take on responsibility for our food. This would suit you if you like an interesting project, as it will involve sourcing ethically-produced local produce, planning dishes, and either cooking yourself or finding and managing volunteer cooks. Please email events@Kairos.London

Help at events, voluntary

We also sometimes need an extra pair of hands for an hour or two at events. We would repay you with a free ticket and the unquantifiable pleasure of giving. Please email events@Kairos.London

Other Ways to Get Involved

Speak at Kairos

We’re always looking for speakers with interesting things to say about any of the questions listed on our home page or other issues we may have overlooked.

Contribute ideas

Let us know if you have ideas for events, speakers or collaborations or any other suggestions for how to build and improve the project.

Donate stuff and skills

We are currently in need of furniture (armchairs, tables, lamps, curtains, plant pots etc), books for the library that fit within the Kairos programme, fabric and sewing equipment for our sewing club, and kitchen equipment. If you have carpentry or other practical skills, and some free time, we’d love your help constructing shelves and a bar.

We have a small start-up grant from The Open Society Foundations, but in order to keep events affordable, and to develop the project, we need to raise some additional funds. If you’d like to support us you can donate via our Chuffed crowdfunder or email us.
