My Octopus Teacher (2020, 1hr, 25mins) tells the story of filmmaker Craig Foster who, over the course of a year, gets to know a female octopus in the waters off South Africa while working through his emotional crisis. The film, directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed, won multiple awards, including an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

After the screening and a break for supper, we'll talk about the relationship at the heart of the film. Does it reflect a human-centred view of our more-than-human kin, or does it suggest how we might begin to reconnect with the rest of life? Bel Jacobs, founder of the Empathy Project, will loosely guide the discussion.

Please note the earlier than usual start time.

Kairos, 84 Tottenham Court Road, London W1T 4TG
