Day Walk across Knepp Wildland
Saturday May 11th, 10.30am-4.30pm
This event is now fully booked. To join the waiting list email events@Kairos.London.
The Knepp Wildland is a 3,500 acre rewilding project in Sussex, now 20 years old. Formerly conventional farmland, the Knepp estate is now a dynamic ecosystem, home to endangered species such as nightingales, turtle doves and purple emperor butterflies as well as herds of old English longhorn cattle, Tamworth pigs, Exmoor ponies and red and fallow deer.
Join us for a walk across the Knepp estate led by Helen Locke of XR Walkers, and guided by Dr Charlie Gardner.
We'll take a manageable 6.5 mile route along the public footpaths (a total of about three hours walking) with breaks to observe the wildlife and detours to visit the various treehouses - to spot stork nests and for views across the estate- , the bird hide and the castle ruins. We'll also take a break for lunch.
Detailed schedule as follows:
09.05am: Train from Victoria, arrives Horsham 09.57am
10am: Minibus/taxies form Horsham to the start of the walk.
10.30am - 4.30pm: Walk, observe, listen, with a break for lunch
4.30pm: Minibus/taxies back to Horsham station.
5.20pm: Return train from Horsham to London Victoria.
6.15pm: Arrive back at London Victoria
Please note: This is our own self-guided walk, not an official Knepp safari, and we will have to stick to the public footpaths. We are confident however, that we will still see plenty of wildlife.
In advance of this trip, Wild Card co-founder Joel Scott-Halkes will be at Kairos to give a talk and lead discussion on rewilding and land-ownership, Rewild the Rich!. More details and booking here.
Booking: We are limiting numbers to 20, and expect this trip to be popular. Kairos Club Members will have priority booking until Monday April 22nd, after which we'll offer any remaining places to non-members.
Cost: You will need to buy your own train ticket and contribute to the cost of transport to and from Horsham (exact amount to be confirmed, but probably around £10). Please bring your own packed lunch.
