A State-Driven Energy Transition with Brett Christophers

In his most recent book, The Price is Wrong, Brett Christophers argues that the current reliance on capitalist markets to lead the transition out of fossil fuels is wrong-headed and destined to fail.

In this talk, Brett, Professor of Economic Geography at Uppsala University, Sweden, will set out an alternative vision, exploring what immediate, large-scale government intervention could look like.

He’ll discuss the relationship between the control of fossil fuel power and geo-political power, and how grassroots-led renewable energy projects could help undermine the stranglehold of big oil. And since renewables create their own set of problems in terms of extractivism and nature depletion, he’ll also ask how we can start to reduce our energy consumption at scale.

Brett’s talk will be followed by supper and discussion.
