Co-Curator, Music & Ents
Freelance

Kairos is a unique events venue exploring radical ideas for social and cultural change in response to the climate and nature crises. We are looking for an experienced music and entertainments programmer to work with the Director to bring more music and entertainment into our space.

About Kairos

Kairos was set up in 2022 by journalist and climate activist Zoë Blackler as a platform for ideas not being discussed in the mainstream. Our first home was on Holborn Viaduct. We are now settled into a former furniture shop on Tottenham Court Road where we have a large basement space with a piano, professional AV equipment and an alcohol licence.

The core programme is our salon-style talk events: intimate evenings in which participant numbers are kept intentionally small with significant time allocated for discussion. Food is an important component of all our events, which include a break for a one-pot vegan supper that we eat together. Speakers include academics, public intellectuals, policy experts, activists and writers on subjects ranging from animal consciousness and the rights of nature to alternative economics, systems thinking, bioregionalism and the Commons. We also screen documentaries and experiment with new formats.

Kairos is also a developing community and many participants come repeatedly. Our Friday drinks nights, Sunday reading room, monthly book club, open mike nights, parties, walks and other informal activities reinforce this community.

Music and entertainment to date has included musical sets during our parties, concerts by Tree Oh! and Concerts Don’t Cost the Earth, games nights and a singing workshop. We are keen to bring much more music and entertainment into our schedule, both for a regular weekly members slot and for one-off mid-week evening and weekend events.
